National Australia Bank's completion of the sale of 80 per cent of MLC Life to Nippon Life Insurance Company for $2.4 billion marks another significant milestone in the deepening of business relations between Australia and Japan.
The latest wave of Japanese investment into Australia is driven by the need for Japanese companies to seek out higher return on capital in markets that offer positive economic growth. The paper, written by Ian Williams, Damien Roberts and Natalie McDowell, was prepared for the Australia Japan Business Conference in Melbourne organised by the Australia Japan Business Co-operation Committee.
