Patrick is a corporate lawyer practicing across a number of industry sectors but specialising in the mining and energy sectors within Sub-Saharan Africa.

His experience includes domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, joint ventures, private equity, corporate restructurings, and black economic empowerment and indigenisation transactions. 

Patrick has been recognised as a 'leading lawyer' in Who's Who Legal (Mining) 2019 - 2021 and noted in Legal 500 (2021) as a ‘key name’ for mining transactions. He is also the recipient of the 2020 and 2021 Client Choice Award for 'Energy & Natural Resources' in South Africa.

  • Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited in relation to the acquisition of AngloGold Ashanti's Mponeng Mine and related operations in South Africa for circa US$300 million
  • Thiess in relation to the acquisition of Basil Read's interest in the Majwe Joint Venture in Botswana and its AUS$1.7 billion contract mining services agreement with Debswana Diamond Company in relation to the Jwaneng Diamond Mine
  • a consortium of investors, including Stanlib, WIPHold and the Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa on the acquisition of a majority stake in AFGRI's grain silo infrastructure portfolio and grain business 
  • Nkholi Consolidated Investments in respect of its ZAR760 million purchase of Peregrine Securities creating Legae Peresec, South Africa’s largest securities trading business
  • CFAO Group in relation to the acquisition of Steinhoff's Southern African auto dealerships division, one of South Africa's largest auto showrooms and a network of trucks dealerships with annual sales of more than 23 billion Rand ($1.6 billion)
  • CMOC on the acquisition of Freeport's indirect 56% interest in the world-class Tenke Fungurume copper-cobalt mine in DRC for US$2.65 billion
  • Norilsk Nickel in the sale of its US$279 million interest in the Nkomati Joint Venture to BCL
