Andrea is a consultant with recognised international experience and a proven track record, having held senior in-house roles in global TMT groups. He works with both the Competition Regulatory and Trade Group and the Global TMT Group.
Andrea specialises in competition, regulatory and intellectual property law, with a particular focus on the media/entertainment/tech industries, where he has spent most of his career. He is a dual qualified English solicitor and Italian lawyer.
Over the years, he has been involved in a wide range of market-leading competition cases in the entertainment and tech industries, advising executives on some of the most transformational cases, deals and policy developments across all media and tech sectors globally. He has also been at the forefront of the digital policy debates, from the Digital Single Market to the application of competition rules and copyright to the digital economy, the regulation of digital platforms, the intersection with IP, data protection and consumer laws, and more recently the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, the metaverse and NFTs.
Andrea is currently a Visiting Professor at the Dickson Poon School of Law - King's College in London and a member of the Innovation, Regulation and Competition Policy Centre (ICPC) at the UER - Università Europea di Roma. He is also a Non-Governmental Advisor to the International Competition Network (ICN) appointed by the UK Competition and Markets Authority.
Andrea was Director of International at the UK Competition and Markets Authority, the Office of Fair Trading, in 2008 and 2009.
He held leadership positions within the International Bar Association's Antitrust Committee, of which he was a co-chair in 2014-2015. He was featured in the Global Competition Review’s list of top in-house antitrust lawyers in the world (Corporate Counsel 2019) and among the “Stars of the In-House Competition Bar” by the Global Competition Review (March 2005). He is sought after as a speaker and thought leader at major competition law and media law conferences.
Background
Andrea graduated magna cum laude from the Luiss Guido Carli University in Rome and holds an L.L.M. with Merit from the London School of Economics. After beginning his career as a solicitor at Herbert Smith (1994-1997), Andrea has held senior roles in numerous leading media, tech and entertainment companies (MTV, Warner Bros/Time Warner, News Corp/21st Century Fox and most recently as Head of Global Competition at Netflix).
